Texas woman sentenced to life in prison for killing her boyfriend’s pet pig

A Texas woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to killing her former boyfriend’s beloved pig, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

Melissa Ritchie, 36, pleaded guilty in October to cruelty to animals, a second-degree felony, the paper reported.

Ritchie was sentenced in April to life with parole eligibility.

Her husband, Richard Ritchie III, was charged with animal cruelty and neglect for the pig, according to the paper.

He was also sentenced to two years in jail for violating the terms of his parole.

Rickson pleaded guilty last month to cruelty in the second degree and is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 20, the American-Stateman reported, citing the Austin Police Department.

Richard Ricksons trial was scheduled to resume March 10, but the court was adjourned until March 14, the AP reported.

The Ricksontons also have two other cats.

A judge ordered the dogs be euthanized because they could have dangerous rabies, according the paper, citing court documents.

The AP did not provide details on the animals.

The couple had two dogs at the time of the killing, the newspaper reported.
