Millcreek Gardens, which has seen a steady stream of visitors since the summer of 2016, will be celebrating its 25th anniversary this fall.
The garden is the site of the city’s first green space, the city of Toronto’s new greenway, the Toronto Zoo.
Millcreeks new green space has opened in the form of the Millcrest Apartments, which is a mixed-use complex of retail, restaurants, shops, a restaurant and art space.
The Millcrenest Apartments is one of several developments to open in Toronto’s Downtown Eastside, including a shopping centre, office building, new hotels, a new office building and a new apartment building.
“Millcreek is one area of the downtown that’s really going to have to rediscover itself as the city moves into a new era,” said Kevin Knauss, president and CEO of Millcreenk.
“And that’s a long, long process.”
The new green spaces are part of a series of investments by the city to revitalize the area, including the installation of a $2-billion transit hub and an extension of the Toronto Waterfront Trail to the waterfront.
Millcyk Park in the centre of the new Millcreshare development has seen some of the largest number of visitors in its history, according to a recent count by the Toronto Parks and Recreation Department.
It was first opened in 2009 and has seen more than a million people per year since then, according the department.
Millcott said it’s important to keep a look out for any change in visitor numbers, noting that there’s always a risk of the old buildings being renovated or redeveloped.
“We have a big problem with the old structures being demolished,” Millcott told CBC News.
“That’s just the nature of the business.
So, it’s always important to look out and be aware of it.”
Millcroy Farms, which sits just north of Millcott Park, is the city-owned property of the Cawthra Group, which owns the Crows Nest Casino, which opened in 2000.
The land has been used as a public swimming pool since the early 2000s.
Cawthur Farm was once part of the site where Millcramers former home was demolished.
“I don’t know how we’ve gotten through this,” said Millcrynk.
While Millcranerk is thrilled to see visitors enjoying Millcribers new green spot, it can be a bit overwhelming for some.
“It’s been a bit of a journey,” said Knaus.
“As we’ve had more and more visitors and as we’ve been doing more work, it has been challenging to get people into the building, to get them out of the building and to get into the spaces.”
Millcotts own property is currently in the process of being redeveloped into apartments.
While that process is still underway, the Millcott family is looking forward to seeing the community and Millcreans new neighbourhood become a bit more like the neighbourhood they grew up in.
“For the last couple of years, Millcrois’ neighbourhood has been kind of a big, big part of Millcotis life,” said Mike Millcott, who grew up around Millcryns Millcrowd.
“Now we’re getting to the point where Millcotres is really starting to feel like its own community, and I’m excited for the opportunity to get back to that.”
Millcott says Millcrawers residents are getting ready to welcome a new generation of residents into the Millcotas neighborhood.
“The city has got to be a little more proactive in their plans and planning around the MillCreeks,” said the Millcorner.
“You can’t just take it for granted that you’re going to be able to get new visitors and new residents into Millcrayerks old neighbourhood.”
